GMCC at Hamcon 2025

Hi All,

There were quite a few GMCC members attending  Hamcon this past weekend in Grand Junction.  The feedback from the folks I spoke with was very positive.  There were some excellent forums including the RFI presentation by  GMCC member Alan K0AV,  and the VEE beam presentation by Mike Ferguson K0MF.  Both rooms were standing room only.    The W1AW/0 station was awesome with three HF stations running 100W to triband Yagis on 50ft pneumatic masts. Thanks to Icom and the dedicated Hamcon committee members in charge of making this happen. It was a great opportunity to demonstrate contest operating during CQWW SSB contest. HF conditions were excellent, especially with 10M openings to Europe on Saturday and Sunday.  I suspect we’ll see some new GMCC applications as a result.

Here’s the list of GMCC attendees:

K0UK Bill,  K0GUZ Steve, K0AV Alan, W0BX Bill, N1CFO Erik,  AK0BC Brad, KC0VDY Jim, K0MF Mike, K8ZTT Dick, K0NR Bob, K0DU Jerry, W0CP Walt, N0POH Wayne and probably others that were present but didn’t happen top by the GMCC table.

GMCC along with DX Engineering sponsored the CW & SSB Pileup competition.  Thanks to Dick K8ZTT and Alan K0AV for setting up all the hardware and getting the software up and running.  Unfortunately the number of participants did not meet expectations in spite of considerable promotion effort.  However the event was successful and did a lot to promote GMCC and contest operating.

The pile up winners receiving DX Engineering gift certificates were:

CW

1st Walt W0CP

2nd Erik N1CFO

3rd Ron KC0ZPS

SSB

1st Jeff K0JSC

2nd Walt W0CP

3rd Ron KC0ZPS

I lost count of the number of people that approached me to say they were very pleased to learn the GMCC would be administering the CO QSO Party in 2026.  It’s clear there is a lot of interest overall and offers to help.

Hamcon has graciously uploaded the forum presentations to their website – but it’s nothing like hearing the speakers in person.

Special thanks to all GMCC members that gave up participating in CQWW SSB to attend the convention.

I’ll have more information regarding CO QP organizing activity in another email soon.
